Washington, DC — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Alliance for Incarcerated Women (AIW) is proud to announce a meaningful collaboration with Dr. Bronner’s, The Hygiene Bank Association, and the DC Department of Corrections (DC DOC) to provide a substantial donation of soap for women housed at the DC DOC.
Access to basic hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, and menstrual supplies is not a luxury. It is a matter of dignity, health, and human rights. Yet, incarcerated women often face significant barriers to obtaining these essentials, with consequences for both physical well-being and mental health.
“This donation is more than just a shipment of products—it’s a statement that every woman’s dignity matters,” said Julia Keleher, Co-Founder of the Alliance for Incarcerated Women. “We are grateful to Dr. Bronner’s for their generosity, and to the DC Department of Corrections for working alongside us to make this possible. Partnerships like these remind us that real change takes all of us—corporate leaders, advocacy networks, and correctional facilities—working together toward a common goal.”
By bringing together corporate partners, advocacy organizations, and correctional leadership, AIW is helping to close the dignity gap for women impacted by incarceration. This collaboration demonstrates the power of shared commitment to meeting both urgent needs and long-term goals for health and dignity.
As AIW looks ahead to its Fall Hygiene Drive, the organization is inviting student organizations, campus groups, and service clubs to join the effort. “Partnerships like this show what is possible when we come together. We invite the next wave of leaders to step up, take action, and help us make dignity the standard for all,” Keleher said.
