Position Overview
AIW is seeking passionate, driven, and detail-oriented interns for the Spring 2026 term. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, policy advocacy, and criminal justice reform. Interns will play an active role in advancing AIW’s mission through research, outreach, communications, and program support, while gaining insight into the lived realities of incarcerated women and the systems that impact them.

Key Responsibilities
Interns may support one or more of the following areas:
- Conduct research on issues related to incarcerated women, criminal legal reform, and gender-responsive policy, and synthesize findings for grant applications, reports, and educational materials
- Create and schedule social media content to increase awareness and engagement across platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
- Support the planning and execution of virtual and in-person events, campaigns, and awareness initiatives
- Assist in drafting outreach emails, conducting outreach and maintaining records of contacts and partnerships with law firms, medical advocacy organizations and nonprofits
- Identify and cultivate partnership opportunities with community organizations, universities, and advocacy groups
- Participate in meetings and provide general administrative support as needed
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public policy, gender studies, communications, or related fields preferred)
- Strong interest in criminal justice reform, gender equity, and social justice
- Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
- Exceptional planning and time management skills
- Experience with social media management tools
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Ability to operationalize ideas, create manuals and other programmatic resources
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines
- Prior experience in research, advocacy, nonprofit work, or community organizing is a plus but not required
